Apparently, some people never learn. Well known actor Randy Quaid and his wife Evi Quaid were arrested for attempting to defraud an inn last year, after skipping on a hotel bill. The pair headed home after posting bail. It’s not as like he could not afford it, so that’s why the event got so much attention. The couple was imprisoned in Texas, but the event took place in California. However, both of them were just arrested in Santa Barbara, for allegedly squatting within the guest house of a property the Quaids used to own.
Quaid imprisoned for skipping on hotel expenses
Quaid and Evi Quaid were in legal trouble last year. On Sept. 30, the Quaids were arrested on suspicion of defrauding an inn. Essentially, they forgot to or deliberately did not pay their expenses for staying at a classy hotel in California, and were picked up by authorities in Texas. After posting bail, both missed a series of court dates. Ultimately, they did make it back to court. Evi Quaid had to settle for probation and community service. According to CNN, the two also paid the hotel bill off, and it all seemed settled.
No such factor as squatters’ legal rights
Selling a house is something people usually keep in mind doing. However, it somehow just didn’t register for Evi and Randy Quaid. The two sold a property they owned in Santa Barbara years ago. They were most recently arrested for taking up residence illegally in the guest house on the property. The current owners produced the documents from the sale. The Quaids claimed they still owned the property. As outlined by ABC, the cops were having none of it and imprisoned them for burglary. Though the home was previously owned by the Quaids, it seems odd that they chose the guest house to squat in.
Declaring Freedom Day from sane
Dennis Quaid, brother of Randy Quaid, has remained silent on the issue. Perhaps there is something in the smog. Hollywood appears to breed a particularly strong variety of insanity. The of not breaking the law doesn’t occur to the Quaids, or others like Lindsay Lohan or Paris Hilton.
