The prospect of making free telephone calls from within the United states to other United States and Canadian numbers – regardless of whether those numbers are land line, cell phone or desktop virtual phone numbers – is enticing to all. Phone service providers are against it, but everybody else likes the idea. Gmail and Google Voice being linked is great for those individuals wanting to effortlessly make free phone calls to wherever they need. Anywhere you can access Gmail, you are able to make a free call.
Google Voice makes your contacts in Gmail an active phone service
Just because cell phone coverage isn’t really there doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be able to make calls. Just use Google Voice with any internet connection. Any calls outside the U.S. or Canada do have a rate. The rate is only 2 cents per minute though. TechCrunch reports that all it takes is the Google Talk plug-in for your browser. You can make and receive calls from your Gmail user interface of all places. Voicemails are saved into your Gmail inbox. If you need to keep talking but are leaving, you also have the option of transferring a call from Google Voice to your cell phone.
In Gmail, Google Voice can be here soon
Google is rolling out the new Google Voice features over the next few days to U.S.-based Gmail accounts, as outlined by the official Google Voice Blog. As soon as you can use it, a “call phone” will show up. It will be as part of your Google Chat list. There could be a Google Voice feature for those using Google Apps for academic or business purposes. Of course that might take a little longer to appear and be useable.
